“Christ is risen from the dead! By death he trampled Death and to those in the tombs he granted life.”
CHRIST IS RISEN. This joyful message is heard among all the Christians Orthodox , that celebrated magnificently the Resurrection of the LordThey celebrated the victory over death, the victory of good versus evil. After the Crucifixion the time to celebrate the Resurrection has come, besides “the Crucifixion is Resurrection’s only way” as Kazantzakis, the famous Greek writer, had said. The churches across Greece were full, waiting the announcement of the “Christ is Risen” message from the priests. The Metropolitan church was once more the church i had chosen to share with my beloved ones, these unique moments of joy and happiness. The church’s interior was full, while the crowd outside at the yard was increasing as time was reaching midnight. The ritual of the liturgy in Holy Saturday includes lovely hymns, while a very important moments occurs when the bishop shares to the faithful the Holy light that came from Jerusalem. Right after the faithful started walking out the church, holding their white, festive candles illuminated with the Holy light.
The intoners of the church were following, leading a small procession heading to the balcony, where the bishop would sung the Pascal troparion of “Christ is Risen”. The intoners were followed by 2 priests holding the icon of Christ’s Resurrection and after them there were coming the bishop of Ioannina Maximus, the priests and many people. They were wearing their light-colored, festive vests in contrast with the dark-colored ones, they wore the day of the Crucifixion. The time was almost twelve and the bishop started reading the Holy Gospel, accompanied by the intoners that were singing the hymns. Under the balcony hundreds of faithful, with their candles, were waiting, praying, the announcement of the cheerful message.
The time was twelve and the great moment for Christianity came as the bishop started singing the “Christ is Risen” psalm. The same moment the church’s bells started ringing joyfully as the army band was playing the National anthem. The faithful started kissing their beloved ones and wishing each other. “Christ is Risen”, “Indeed He is Risen”, everywhere these wishes were heard and cheerful faces were carrying by word of mouth the happy event. For Christianity, Christ’s Resurrection is the peak of the faith, of the New Testament.

Easter is over and the beautiful memories will give us strength. May the Resurrection of Christ give happiness and joy to the souls of every people. May love takes the place of hatred and respect prevail among us. No matter how difficult moments we go through, we must always remember that after the Crucifixion, the Resurrection comes.
